High Speed Internet Connection Requirements.

In addition to your broadband connection, other factors including your computer’s operating system, memory, programs, Ethernet card, and other peripheral devices can have a negative effect on the overall performance.  If you are using older equipment or software your system and equipment may not give you the full benefit of your connection due to the limitations of the device and/or program.  Please note that if there is any question as to whether a problem is with our equipment or your equipment, we will be happy to connect one of our laptop computers to test our service delivered through the DSL modem (charges may apply).

 

 SOUTH SLOPE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.                   South Slope will be responsible for all equipment and testing to provide connectivity of the high speed digital service from SSCTC office to the customers demarcation location.

2.                   South Slope may find in the Cooperatives best interest that an individual location, due to distance, line condition, or other factors may not be served with High Speed Internet Service.  

3.                   Any assistance to customer owned equipment or testing for problems found to be caused by customer owned equipment or cabling will be billed to the customer at the rate of $90.00 per hour per technician.

 

USER  RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.       Customers will be responsible for the purchase of all customer premise equipment (CPE).

2.       User must purchase equipment that is compliant compatible with South Slope’s equipment.  

3.       User is responsible for cabling beyond the demarcation point to insure that it is compatible with the service provided.

4.       Inside Wire Maintenance does not include High Speed Internet Connection problems within a premise.

5.       User must install all internal customer owned equipment or arrange with a computer service and repair company to have such equipment installed.

6.       User is responsible for all CPU software programming installations and changes of equipment, internal and external.

7.       South Slope, under any circumstance will not install customer premise equipment internally to any computer.  South Slope may assist, at the technician’s discretion, in setting up software (hourly charges may apply)  related strictly to the High Speed Internet Service that is purchased from South Slope.  Users are urged to contact a computer service and repair company for installation assistance.

8.       Customers will need filters for their phones, fax machine, satellite receivers, and other analog devices plugged into your phone jacks.  South Slope will provide up to three (3) filters at no charge (one wall filter and two desk filters or three desk filters) .  Additional filters may be purchased from South Slope. An optional whole house splitter may be purchased that takes the place of individual filters.

 The customer may purchase a splitter to be installed at the NID. Splitters will be @ $46.58 each. Some installations may require SSCTC to change out the NID to allow the splitter to fit; changing out the NID will be the responsibility of SSCTC.

   Monthly Rental  @ $  10.00

 

Patch Cables

 Cat-5 Patch Cable @ $5.00 each. ( if required )

Telephone Line Cord @ $5.00 each (if required)

  

Surge Protection

 

South Slope recommends all related equipment for High Speed Internet service to be on UL 1449 listed and CSA approved certified surge protector. If the customer does not use this type of surge protection, South Slope will not warranty any modem. The customer will be responsible for maintaining the modems and any damage other than normal wear. No warranty beyond the manufacturer’s warranty is expressed or implied.

 

South Slope recommends all customers use quality surge protection or UPS, uninterrupted power supply, that will protect two (2) phone lines, ( High Speed Internet Service uses “line 2 type wiring”), as well as multiple AC power protected outlets to protect your modem, monitor, printer, etc.  Please review the manufacturers warranty, installation instructions and follow them carefully.
