Repair and Inside Wiring

Repair service

We maintain the local network. South Slope Cooperative Communications Company is responsible for providing you with access (dial tone and transmission facilities) to the local network.

The Repair center answers calls 24 hours a day but repair visits are generally scheduled during normal working hours only. If you are having local network problems call (319) 626-2211.

Outside our area call 1-800-272-6449 to report a trouble 24 hours a day.

If your service is interrupted for more than 24 hours after being reported or detected by the telephone company, you may qualify for credit on your local monthly charges.

Wiring repair options

For repair of inside wiring, you have several options:

1. You can repair the inside wiring problems yourself.

2. You can have the repair done by another provider of service, such as an electrical contractor.

3. You can have South Slope Cooperative Communications Company repair your inside wire for time-and-material charges, or you can subscribe to our maintenance plan for complete inside wire protection.

Call a service representative for more information about South Slope Cooperative Communications Company services and what charges apply.

Repair of telephone company facilities

South Slope Cooperative Communications Company will repair service problems in the telephone company central offices, and the lines extending from the central offices to the terminal box or protector located inside/outside your residence or business, at no charge.

Wiring installation options

Most residence and single-line business customers have three options for installing telephone wiring and jacks in their homes or businesses.

1. You can do the work yourself.

2. You can arrange for installation by South Slope Cooperative Communications Company.

3. You can arrange for installation by an independent specialist.

All inside wiring must meet certain technical standards.

Prewiring a home or business

When building or remodeling a home, it's usually easier to install the telephone wiring before the drywall is put up. Wiring can be installed in finished locations, but more time and expense is involved and the wiring may be visible.

If you wish to have South Slope Cooperative Communications Company do this work for you, contact a service representative about prewiring services and related charges.

Premises cable

South Slope Cooperative Communications Company customers are responsible for the installation and maintenance of all premises telephone cable on their property. Premises cable is all telephone cable on the same continuous property that runs between buildings and between floors in buildings. This does affect owners, managers and occupants of multi-tenant and multi-story buildings.
