September Business Spotlight: Colony Acres Family Farm

September 11, 2026

Colony Acres Family Farm

One hundred years. Four generations. Countless memories.

In 2026, Colony Acres Family Farm is celebrating a century of farming the same Iowa soil their family first began cultivating generations ago. Today, Dean and Katie Colony are carrying that legacy forward, blending their agricultural roots with new experiences that invite the community to enjoy “A little country, in the city.”

A LITTLE COUNTRY, IN THE CITY.

For the Colony family, the farm is more than a business. It’s a piece of their family history and a place they’re proud to share with the North Liberty community where they raised their own children.

What began as a small pumpkin patch has grown into an agritourism destination welcoming families, friends and community members for seasonal farm experiences, Christmas trees, food, special events and private gatherings. Through that growth, Colony Acres has remained rooted in the hospitality and connection that have shaped the farm for generations.

At its heart, Colony Acres is about bringing people together. The Colony family continues to open their doors to create a place where people can slow down, spend time together and make the farm part of their own family traditions.

CELEBRATING 100 YEARS

This September marks the beginning of a particularly special season at Colony Acres. The farm kicked off its Centennial Season with a Celebration Dinner on September 10, commemorating 100 years of the Colony family farming in North Liberty.

Beginning September 19, the annual Fall Harvest season brings guests back to the farm for pumpkins, fall fun, food and opportunities to make new memories through October 31. While there, guests can visit the Sweet Shop for favorites like donuts, funnel cakes and apple cider slushies, grab artisan pizza and more from Barnside Bites, or browse the Market for Colony Acres merchandise, farm-related items, lotions, sauces and freshly baked breads.

STAYING CONNECTED WITH SOUTH SLOPE

South Slope has been part of the Colony Acres story for decades. Dean and Katie have personally been customers for almost 30 years, with South Slope supporting the farm’s growth for 20 of them.

“South Slope has consistently provided reliable phone and internet services along with helpful, responsive support. They understand the unique demands of our seasonal business and have always helped us stay connected and keep things running smoothly.”

As the farm and its communication needs have evolved, dependable service has helped Colony Acres stay connected through every season.
