South Slope Awards Grants to Non-Profits

South Slope Cooperative Communications and Aureon are pleased to announce that matching charity grants have been awarded to the Amana Heritage Society and The St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Upon reviewing an abundance of applications, the Aureon Charity Grant Committee delegated funds to projects committed to the betterment of local communities.

The Amana Heritage Society will use their grant funds for a new projector and screen, as part of their School House Auditorium Multimedia Center Upgrade project. Also, the Amana Heritage Society is updating the auditorium in the 1870’s era school house to create a multi-use space that includes a school exhibit and the multimedia center. This includes UV film, track lighting, and stanchions. The Amana Heritage Society collects, preserves, and interprets the cultural heritage of the Amana Colonies National Historic Landmark, and operates the Amana Heritage Museum which includes an extensive research library and archives. The historical sites, museum exhibits, and programs of the Amana Heritage Society are important cultural, tourism, and economic resources in Iowa County and Iowa.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation will use their funds to help fund childhood cancer research grants worldwide. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s has funded more than $253 million in research grants to find cures for kids with cancer. Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer and donor powered charity committed to supporting the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.
