Job Type: Full-time, hourly.

Hours:  M-F 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Position Objective /Goal:

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning and appearance of our facilities. The primary goal is to maintain a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment for employees, visitors, and members. The individual in this role will play a crucial part in supporting day-to-day operations by addressing maintenance needs promptly and proactively.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Experience in facilities maintenance or related field
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair various facility-related issues.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills for record keeping and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Exhibits outstanding qualities of respect for others, pro-active mindset, good communication, safety, self-starting, responsibility, and trustworthiness.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Repairs and maintains a variety of facilities systems, components, and structures such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, basic hardware, and carpentry.
  • Performs service and preventative maintenance on small, motorized equipment engines and on automotive vehicles.
  • Conducting inspections to ensure that standards are met by contractors or subcontractors.
  • Identifies repair and maintenance projects requiring the assistance of contractors or vendors.
  • Performs electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance and repair.
  • Maintains a broad working knowledge of materials, systems and code requirements related to maintenance of all South Slope facilities.
  • Responds to emergencies and closures including adverse weather to ensure that all facilities are protected and remain operational. Assists with tasks required in preparing to open offices after a closure including snow and ice removal.
  • Cleaning and maintaining common areas, such as lobbies, cafeterias, hallways, stairwells, reception area and restrooms on occasion.
  • Knows, understands, and applies all safety procedures of South Slope and the outside plant.
  • Operates a vehicle and is responsible for its cleanliness, safe operation and reporting any observed maintenance needs.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Two years of education or training, in the facilities maintenance trades and/or two years of facilities maintenance work experience
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience
  • Three-five years of education or training, in the facilities maintenance trades and/or three-five years of facilities maintenance work experience
  • Forklift Certification
  • Experience reading blueprints.
  • Basic knowledge of excel spreadsheets.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions depending on the nature of the tasks. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise, and temperature extremes.

Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and some lifting while performing job duties. Wrist, hand and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment/tools
