Job Type: Full-time, hourly.

Hours:  M-F 8:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Position Objective /Goal:

The Utility Locators are responsible for accurately locating network facilities and pinpointing the path of cables, pipes and other conduits that carry underground utilities. The Utility Locator is responsible for protecting underground utilities from damage during projects involving excavation. The Utility Locator “stands by” to assist with identifying and mapping locations when network facilities are in excavation areas. The Utility Locator is required to use a variety of techniques (GPS, blueprint, and/or radar) to measure utilities.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must have a strong attention to detail.
  • Must have a high level of accuracy and ability to follow instructions.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Must be willing to work both standard working hours and non-standard hours to meet work demands.
  • Must have good organization and communication skills.
  • Must have respect for both internal and external customers and work closely with schedulers.
  • Effectively communicates technical information to contractors and related staff.
  • Demonstrated self-starter, team player, motivated/motivator, and able to efficiently manage/direct others (internally and externally).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Accurately locates network facilities utilizing electronic locating equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to prioritize work daily workload with limited direction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safety rules and regulations.
  • Create long-term partnerships with existing contractors, engineers and management.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  • May be required to attend work related events and trainings during work hours.

Education:

  • High school diploma required.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience in Construction preferred. At least 1 year of Utility Locating preferred.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise and temperature extremes. Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and some lifting while performing job duties. Wrist, hand and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment/tools.

  • Stooping and Squatting (Continuously)
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. (Frequently)
  • Bending (Consistently Kneeling (Occasionally)

Travel:

This position requires continuous driving in a work vehicle throughout the duration of the work shift and prolonged sitting.
