South Slope Cooperative Communications Annual Meeting

April 19, 2023

More than 100 community members gathered for the South Slope Cooperative Communications Annual Meeting on April 19, 2023, at the South Slope Community Center.

As a Cooperative, members of South Slope have the opportunity to run for the Board of Directors, serve on the Nominating Committee, and vote for Cooperative Board Members. This year, Brian Butz was re-elected to the Fairfax/Swisher director term and Brad Meskimen was re-elected to the Norway/Ely director term.
Todd Thorson, Partner at Forvis, a CPA and advising firm from Des Moines, shared that South Slope is in strong financial position and showing growth in total assets, revenues, and member equity. He also said that South Slope continues to experience strong growth as the demand for reliable internet has exploded with the pandemic.

South Slope CEO, Chuck Deisbeck, highlighted the expansion of the fiber network to bring homes and businesses fast and reliable services. “We are completing customer conversions from copper to fiber in Oxford; Tiffin conversions will start in June; and we expect fiber construction to be complete in rural Solon by the end of 2024,” Deisbeck said. “All of these projects included some grant funding and more opportunities will come in an effort to bring fast broadband connectivity to all areas.”

Deisbeck also shared that the Cooperative recently launched new internet plans for both homes and businesses. “Our new plans feature equal download and upload speeds which is essential for how people use the internet,” he said.

In closing, Deisbeck shared South Slope’s long tradition of giving back to communities. “We have a fantastic South Slope Cares team that is involved now more than ever! We’re in parades, festivals and volunteering as a way to say thank you,” he said. “As our area continues to experience robust growth, our employees are ready and equipped to serve and help our customers and communities.”
