The City of Ely receives $10,000 for an All-Veterans Memorial

August 9, 2022

On Monday, August 8, 2022, Aureon and South Slope Cooperative Communications provided a total of $10,000 to the American Legion St. Quentin Post 555. The American Legion plans to build an All-Veterans Memorial in downtown Ely for the city’s revitalization project.

The Iowa Area Development Group and Aureon formed a program called Ripple Effect in 2007 to help provide economic development services to rural Iowans. The Ely American Legion was awarded $5,000 from South Slope, located in North Liberty, and $5,000 from Aureon, located in West Des Moines, to assist in engineering and building a new Vets Memorial Monument. The monument will not only help the community remember those who fought for our country but will also serve as a key attraction incorporated into Ely’s downtown revitalization project.

The City of Ely is hosting its Sesquicentennial (150 years) event this weekend on August 12 and 13th. The event will showcase live music, a dad joke competition, baby goats, hayrides, beer and food vendors, and numerous family activities will be available. Money raised at the sesquicentennial will go towards the construction of the All-Veterans Memorial.
