June Business Spotlight: Dan and Debbie’s Creamery

May 27, 2022

Dan and Debbie's Spotlight

This month’s Business Spotlight is on Dan and Debbie’s Creamery

After nearly 25 years of milking cows, first-generation dairy farmers Dan and Debbie Takes of rural Ely expanded their small dairy farm by adding a production facility and farm-to-market store. Together with four of their six children, in 2016 their value added creamery opened as Dan and Debbie’s Creamery on Main Street in Ely.

The creamery is home to freshly made dairy products using the milk from the Takes’ family farm and turned into small batch, wholesome fresh dairy products. Squeaky cheese, rich ice cream, hand-rolled butter, milk and aged cheddar are several products you’ll find carefully crafted at the creamery in the make room. Experiencing the creamery is more than just going in for a scoop of ice cream. It’s stopping by the viewing room overlooking what products are being made and it’s leaving with fresh cheese curds and some of the best chocolate milk around.

“We started the creamery as a way to build a more sustainable income for our farm and a way for us to invest back into our herd, our land and our products,” said Operations Manager Josie Rozum. “Sales made at the creamery are extremely important to the sustainability of our farm and we rely heavily on the internet to be functioning properly to manage those transactions and purchases made at our store. We have peace of mind knowing South Slope always addresses issues in a timely manner which allows us to focus on running our business.”
