South Slope Provides Matching Grants to Support Local Organizations
North Liberty, IA (June 16, 2021) – South Slope Cooperative Communications and Aureon are pleased to announce that matching charity grants have been awarded to the North Liberty Community Pantry, the Coralville Veterans Memorial and the City of Swisher Parks and Rec Commission. Upon reviewing an abundance of applications, the Aureon Charity Grant Committee delegated funds to projects committed to the betterment of local Iowan communities.
The North Liberty Community Pantry will use their grant money to purchase fresh produce for pantry families through the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Nutritious foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, are important for a healthy diet, but can be cost prohibitive for low-income families. The inventory that is provided by local farmers will benefit the hundreds of families who visit the pantry every week from North Liberty and the surrounding small towns in Johnson County.
The Coralville Veterans Memorial will use grant money to help fund their veteran’s monument. This special project will honor all branches of the United States Armed Forces on large granite medallions, and also allow for recognition of individual veterans on memorial brick pavers that will line the area.
The City of Swisher Parks and Rec Commission will use their grant money to help start an organized sports league for the youth in Swisher. Funding would cover items needed for their t-ball and soccer league including balls, bats, batting T’s, soccer nets and marking supplies for the fields. Money will also be used for hats and t-shirts for the children’s uniforms.
Grant applications are available at www.southslope.com/grants. Grants are awarded quarterly and amounts are determined by an independent charity grant committee.
